This spring, our company first set out on the journey to create beautiful tabletop products for your home. In the summer, we were bursting with new ideas and designs to explore and share. Now, with the brisk fall breeze, we are invigorated to continue down our path. We promised you meaningful handmade textiles for dining, entertaining, and gifting to those you love, and we are working hard to reach that end.
Shiny Elephants has been moving fast!
Over the last month we have continued to develop our website and are in the midst of building our virtual shop. We have designed and ordered our product packaging. We have taken huge steps forward with the development and manufacturing of our products, and are grateful for our talented manufacturing partners across the globe. We currently have two patterns in production with a third on its way soon! New samples are coming in every week, and we are taking time to review, edit, revise, shift, move, change, rethink, redesign and tweak our designs, materials, and production methods until we have a final product we are proud to share with you.

All textiles are 100% cotton with exquisite hand-block-printed designs from Jaipur, India. Coasters and product packaging are made in the USA from recycled paper and hand stamped by yours truly. All patterns are Shiny Elephants originals, designed in Houston, TX by designer, Emily Platt.
The Beauty of Block Printing (a quick history lesson)
As mentioned, our textiles are all printed by hand, from meticulously hand carved wood blocks. This is an ancient printing technique, originating in China, and dating back to 220 AD. In the 10th Century block printing became a huge industry in India with printed Indian silks and cottons coveted throughout Europe. To this day, India remains a leader in this artisan field. Shiny Elephants is admittedly obsessed with block printing. The process is so hands-on. No two articles are the same. Each a unique expression of the designer and artisan who created it. Pictured below, from our very own block-printing partner, is a beautiful pattern --not ours-- in production.
